INTRODUCTION:

CARE’s long term program will focus on women and girls in rural disadvantage areas with four priority areas: SRM Health and Rights, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Women’s Voice and Education.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Driver: Based in Dili, this position is responsible to support project team for implementation of the AHP Project at the village level. This position is an essential part of the CARE team being primarily responsible for the safe transportation of CARE staff and visitors, maintenance and record keeping for CARE vehicles, and communication and coordination with the CARE team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Make sure all vehicle documents are updated and available.
  • Provide safe transportation for all passengers in the vehicle (CARE staff, INGO staff, partners, project beneficiaries, visitors) in accordance with the Fleet Manual, Safety & Security requirements, and the laws of Timor-Leste;
  • Daily check and maintenance of vehicle cleanliness, fuel, water, oil and wheel tire pressure, etc., including service checking to ensure vehicle is secure and safe. Report any needs for repairs to the supervisor.
  • To follow all driving rules, regulations and procedures as per the CITL Vehicle Policy
  • Maintain vehicle log sheet record appropriately according to CARE policy.
  • Transport any goods, communications, and messages as required and provide assistance with loading and unloading of the car;
  • Report in time to Fleet unit in case of any services required
  • Ensure the vehicle is equipped with safety tools, first aid kit and drinking water;
  • Responsible for knowing addresses and directions when assigned, and attention to delivery instructions
  • Notify passengers when arrival or pick up by text message.
  • Report immediately to Security focal point and also fleet, if any accident occurred while driving the vehicle.
  • Do not drive vehicle without approved trip ticket and also should not change the approved direction. However, in case of any urgent needs, vehicle could change the route but after receiving approval from the authority.
  • Do not take any passenger without CARE’s attention.
  • Ensure vehicle is clean and safe.
  • Make sure vehicle waiver forms are available in the vehicle.
  • Make sure all associate items are available e.g. Tarpaulin,

OTHER RESPONSIBILITES

  • Promote a safe and secure work environment; foster a culture of safety and security awareness and ensure compliance with the safety and security policies, procedures
  • Timely attendance in team office and maintain office hour with an exception in field time.
  • Engage in emergency preparedness, assist in any emergency response as required
  • Act actively for maintenance of team office ensuring cleanness, organized, arrangement of water and coffee, having healthy environment etc.
  • Uphold CARE’s code of conduct
  • Demonstrate an understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to CARE’s approach and values including ethnic diversity and cultural sensitivity
  • Uphold and promote CARE’s commitment to Child Protection
  • Work at extra time and weekend if it is related to project needs.
  • To proactively participate in the APPA process including the annual appraisal, midyear review and regular 1:1 meetings, ensuring that the APPA process (including the paperwork) is an integral component of Annual Work Plans and activities 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Senior Secondary (Years 10-12) and/or minimum 1-2 years relevant work experience, preferably with a certificate in auto mechanics;
  • Minimum 1 year driving experience, preferably with an International Non-Government Organization (INGO) or private company;
  • Valid Timor-Leste Driver’s license, preferably with four wheel drive experience;
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle repairs and maintenance;
  • Good communication skills in Tetum and basic knowledge of English is an advantage;
  • Ability to work within clearly defined routines and plans; repetitive manual duties, with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and to work as part of a team;
  • Good interpersonal skills including, open mindedness, willingness to learn, team spirit, good attitude and personality;
  • Demonstrated flexible approach and ability to work under pressure and to organize and manage workload to meet deadlines; and
  • Demonstrated honesty, reliable and trustworthy.
